Fizz is Fizzing with ideas!

(Posted on behalf of one of our members - Janet 'Fizz' Curtis) “On the Zoom meeting yesterday, our theme for the session was ‘The Word’ - that is, anything to do with writing. I chose to use a piece that I wrote in 2021, or at least, I used the first few paragraphs of it. The whole piece is 3,000 words long, so I edited it down a little bit!

I read out a few lines of what qualities I felt I needed in order to write - the main quality that I need is tenacity. Without tenacity, I would have given up long ago. I don’t worry about who (if anyone) will read my book, I just get on and enjoy the acts of researching and writing.

Rabbit holes loom large in my research, I am aware of them, and happily fall down them. My theory is that each rabbit hole provides me with a blog post - vaguely on the subject of my book, but not suitable to go in it. For example, this week I have been writing about Flower Fairies! It turns out that the woman I am writing about (Irene Mawer) taught a girl called Sheila Evans, and when Sheila was a child she had been one of the models that Cicely Mary Barker used in her famous illustrations of fairies and flowers! I have made friends with Shiela’s daughter and she is absolutely thrilled to see blog posts about her late mother, and in turn she has passed the blog on to her own grand daughter who is following in the tradition of becoming a dancer. A beautiful circle completed.”
